“Great location, but needs basic improvements”

I had stayed in this hotel in 2003 and had great memories of the it (great location, nice room, amazing breakfast and incredible view from the terrace). In spite of reading not so good reviews I decided to try it anyway because of the location and terrace. The location and view are the same as I remembered, but that’s it. The first room my sister and I were given was not good at all and we asked to be moved to another room which was better, but didn’t have the same quality I had experienced before. The hotel has one of the best locations in Rio and the rooms are spacious and clean, but it’s definitely in great need of upgrades. The carpet in the halls are worn out and stained, the breakfast buffet was good (not as good as I remember), but the terrace area, where the breakfast is served and where the pool is, also needs improvement. All in all, the hotel has an overall sad look and is in great need of a reform. We were told that they’ve been trying to remodel it, but the country’s bad economy makes it difficult to do do. Having said all that, I’d do love the location, the terrace, and the spacious rooms, so I might consider staying there again.

“Looks sloppy”

The location is great and breakfast is very good but the big standard rooms we had are a bit neglected. The hotel has lost status and looks old and sloppy (towels, bed sheets, curtains). The location is great and breakfast is very good but the big standard rooms we had are a bit neglected. The hotel has lost status and looks old and sloppy (towels, bed sheets, curtains). We've been there several times but I think that this was our last stay there. We didn't like that sun loungers and umbrellas were displayed in the background and not near to the sea or in the front of the beach like in our previous visits (we were sat in a sort of ghetto)
