The helpfulness of the staff is the most striking feature of this hotel. The rooms are tiny, the breakfast is adequate and the breakfast timing is inadequate but the staff explained patiently how the hotel charges can be reduced during my stay - like making me a member of the club, offering reduced price for not utilizing the room cleaning services etc.I booked the room for two guests but my friend decided to stay the night in Tokyo. They voluntarily reduced the price for solo check in day alone. The hotel also is a new one with clean rooms so for a budget traveler, a great choice.

We arrived in Morioka without a room reservation, and initially enquired at the Tourist Information counter about room costs of hotels near the station in our budget range. This hotel is a convenient three minute walk from the railway station; we first requested a room inspection and found the room pleasant. There are two Toyoko Inns in Morioka, part of the Toyoko chain group; this property faced the Kitakami River. The room was small, though not cramped, very clean, and both corridor and room were fresh smelling. Good room lighting, firm, comfortable beds, a 5 foot long (150cm) desk unit equipped with a small refrigerator underneath, in-room safe, hot water kettle, mugs, hair dryer, slippers, flat screen TV. (Video on demand was available for Y500 for 1 night viewing of movies if required ) The good size spotless bathroom, thick towels, deep tub shower, dispensers with shower gel, and shampoo. Our bedroom window was able to be opened, the room overlooked a car park and another building further back, quiet, very little street noise. Rooms at the front of the property would have views across the street to the river. The ground floor lobby and adjacent breakfast area were pleasant, tables and seating, a desk with free computer terminals, a free to use microwave oven near an alcove from which breakfast was served. A Japanese style breakfast was included in the tariff; Japanese food plus tea, coffee, juice, pastries and fried eggs which were cooked as required by two pleasant Japanese ladies. At the rear of the lobby a handy coin laundry; wash machine and dryers (Y200 wash) After the 10.00am checkout the pleasant Front Office staff, tagged and held our luggage for us until we left Morioka a few hours later Morioka the capital of Iwate Prefecture is a small pleasant city, from the bridge over the Kitakami River to the north-west is a great view of Mt Iwate, a stratovolcano (2038m high). In Morioka Castle Site Park are the ruins of Morioka Castle all that remains is the huge castle base; most of the park was snow covered; paths led over an arched bridge, the red painted bridge a striking contrast to the surrounding white landscape.

I travel with two children(3&7) so the room was small for us, but we knew in advance that rooms were small. This is not a family hotel, so if you are traveling with children be aware that the rooms are small.

Breakfast closes at 9am sharp.

Yes, it's close to the station, but you have to cross a busy road to get to it. That means either going down through the subway or walking an additional 100 metres or so to get to a crossing - fine when the weather's good but not so when it's raining. Room is the typical size you expect in Japan and so is the bathroom, but everything you need is there and it works. Staff at the front desk were helpful. Just off from the front desk they have some washing machines. Breakfast is a simple, self-serve affair. There are numerous restaurant and drinking options in the area around the hotel.
