I honestly don&t know where to begin. A perfect two nights at this historic hotel in a sublime location. Trip from Tokyo is super convenient. Train from Shinjuku, shuttle bus and then a personalized check in. Arrival was wonderful. ags whisked to our room as we were offered a complimentary drink in the book-filled library with lovely fires burning. he staffmember who spoke excellent English explained the facilities and the meal options. The atomosphere was sublime, thousands of books to read, beautiful art, comfortable chairs to enjoy time with friends. The room was huge, kimona and lounge wear in appropriate sizes were waiting in our room. The view from the window of the river and hillswas so relaxing. The first night we were offered incredibly innovative appetizers using high quality local ingedients and included complimentary sake. The second night we enjoyed again a multi-couse menu with beef and pork shabu shabu. Breakfast was also different on both days and even included a mushroom risotto. But where this place shines is the staff. Every interaction was the epitome of true engagement, whether at the bar, the front desk or in the diningroom. And do try the local wine. I have lived in Tokyo for 35 years and usually avoid agano wine. But te sommelier has chosen well and on the second night we tried both red and white and were pleasantly surprised by the complex tastes. Excellent. I recommend staying 2 nights to fully enjoy this rare experience. Most of all the cost was so much less than other places that ckaim to be luxury but end up being banal cookie-cutter experiences. Do not hesitate to go out of your way to visit Shinyu, you will be rewarded with a stay that will be a highlight of your trip to Japan. The hotsprings are marvelous and you will go home feeling you have experienced something very special.

“Even Japanese could be satisfied with the quality of the venue!”

Cleanliness, quality of the water and their service were awesome. Even I as Japanese was surprise it's experience. The place is difficult to reach by public transportation so I recommend to rent a car to visit there. Please visit before or after enjoying Mt. Tateshina.

Hotel provides bus pick up service from Chino station to hotel. The ride is around 30 mins along the scenic Venus Line. Hotel is surrounded by greenery and located next to a river. Hotel provides bus pick up service from Chino station to hotel. The ride is around 30 mins along the scenic Venus Line. Hotel is surrounded by greenery and located next to a river. The front desk staff are very sincere, friendly, helpful with bright smiles. They upgraded our room and helped us book a taxi from hotel to Mishakaike Pond to Chino station the next morning. The lounge with adjoining library is elegantly decorated, eluding nostalgic charm from Taisho era. The private onsen is small but has great view overlooking the river. The dinner was exquisitely prepared and very delicious. All in all, the hotel is a hidden gem and we are very fortunate to discover it!

“Interesting hotel with great food but a bit outdated”

Stayed here for one night - the lobby is very interesting - literally a library! There is a newly refurbished onsen but we chose to go to the private one which was a bit rustic. Stayed here for one night - the lobby is very interesting - literally a library! There is a newly refurbished onsen but we chose to go to the private one which was a bit rustic. The hotel is set in lovely surroundings and you feel you’re in the middle of a forest and you can hear the stream nearby. The rooms were OK but felt dated. This was in stark contrast to a sister hotel down by the Lake - Sui Suwako - which was gorgeous and the standard we were expecting. But to be fair, the prices reflect that and I think the quality of the rooms is appropriate for the price we paid. But it really could do with a refurbishment! What stood out was the food - I wouldn’t call it fine dining but the flavours were excellent and if presented a bit better and the environment updated, this would be a star attraction in my opinion! Would definitely consider staying here again if the prices are reasonable again!
