From the moment that we booked the reservation by phone we were given excellent service. When we arrived everything was as we had asked, a refrigerator moved into our room etc. making it very easy to keep cold drinks and snacks. The shower drain was clogged and taken care of as soon as it was reported. The air conditioner broke and was also taken care of immediately. Nothing but the friendliest and most caring staff. In fact, it is such a small place it is possible to get to know each of the staff members. They began to feel like family after a few days. Accomodations are as you would find in any budget hotel in the U.S., very basic...only where in the U.S. would you have a beachfront hotel at this price?! Our room was steps from the pool, bar, and beach. There is only a shower, no tub. They kindly provide a beach towel for each guest too so it is not necessary to pack one. The bar staff will carry a beach chair down to the sand for you and deliver drinks there as well. There is a small playground but it isn't very safe for the smallest tots. The restaurant "El Faro" connected to the hotel serves excellent meals at reasonable prices. The pool is only about 3 feet deep or so but it has a covered area with great lounge chairs to relax in. A word on safety concerns: we travel to this area every year and there were noticeably less people there this year. However, there is high profile police presence in two other beach hotels nearby. We practically had the place to ourselves. I would recommend the hotel for families. It is not a five star spa boutique type hotel (if you need that I would look on the other side of the street a bit further down from this hotel and for at least $30 more a night) but it was just right for what we needed. The only thing I think was missing were a few hooks to hang bathing suits and towels to dry. The window in the lower rooms do not open and it is SO humid in Tampico that nothing dried really well hung over a chair or door. Next time I might spend a bit extra and get one of the rooms with a balcony. There are rooms on the beach side and rooms across the street over the reception and restaurant. While we were staying there other guests included grandparents/grandchildren, young families, work colleagues on a training assignment, just for an idea of who you'll find. We will be going back to Lorencillo Miramar.
